The first step in caring about food education: we joined the Green Market
We talked about how Xinpu originally had a place called Fangliao, about how yellow plum jam can actually produce its own pectin, about how kapok fibers are too short to be woven into clothing, and about how Taiwan lilies need to be sown before March; we tasted a bite of crisp plum, tried the lingering finish of organic tea, and listened to the sharing on stage. We had so much fun, because we discovered that each of these products has its own story, stories earned through sweat and persistence.
So we wanted to join this big family. But we do not actually produce anything, which was troubling, troubling indeed.
After much thought, we realized that not every passerby can see the value of small farmers' products, because they are already used to looking at this place with the shopping mode of a big-box store. Looking around, they feel it falls short of the expectation of a dazzling array, and so they hurry past. Just like that, they miss the chance to discover the stories.
So we hoped to let footsteps slow down and let hearts linger, to at least open up one opportunity to understand. Two hopes rubbed together and generated heat, and the idea of "let everyone DIY!" just popped out! The concept of "promoting small farmers' products" just leaped into our heads!
