Under the protection of the centuries-old temple Jinshan Yan in Madou and its Qingshui Zushi (Reverent Master Qingshui), the friendly farmers were fortunate to enjoy a rare good year.
Thinking back to last year, when Brother Xiangbin politely said, "I am old, I am old, I can no longer keep up the work," and solemnly handed over to us his most cherished old pomelo orchard, the friendly farmers knew very well that it was not that he could no longer work... it was that he could not bear to see us young farmers, inexperienced as we were, all fall down as soon as a gust of adversity came... so he selflessly gave us the old pomelo orchard he had tended all his life, along with his precious hands-on experience. When we think of such abundant loving-kindness, how can we ever repay it?!
All we could do was learn with gratitude and great care, learning how to tend these Wendan pomelo trees, 30 to 50 years old, with natural farming methods. The grass grows tall, the dew shines bright... as the old pomelo trees one by one enjoy the sweet clear dew, all the creatures beneath the grass can also multiply happily...
Following the solar terms, pests and diseases such as snails, anthracnose, longhorn beetles and fruit flies took turns appearing. Conventional pomelo growers began mixing their own secret magic potions to wash the trees and kill everything... In March, in the pomelo town, when pomelo flowers fill the whole town, a heavy fragrance assails the nose! No longer knowing whether it is the pomelo's own fresh scent or pesticide drifting in the air? Because we love nature, we cannot bear to harm her! The friendly farmers earnestly tried to understand what natural checks and balances are, and how to strengthen the roots and the source. Following the simple principle of good microbes managing bad microbes, they called upon the beneficial microbes already present in the earth, spraying them on the leaves and pouring them into the soil, carefully building layer after layer of a still-natural protective net.
It bloomed! It bloomed! As bees and butterflies busily sought nectar, the tiny fruit quietly arrived at this moment. Besides the original grass fertilizer, rice bran was quickly given as good nourishment. Organic rice bran provides the true energy for the baby fruits to grow big and strong...
Under the protection of the compassionate deities, and as the foolish farmers learned, the Wendan pomelo fruits grew bigger day by day... As night fell and fireflies glimmered, a snail slowly climbed onto the fruit. Was it trying to imitate the poetry immortal, pondering the moon in appreciation? Or was it taking advantage of the tender fruit to taste something fresh? Whatever the amusement, it left an indelible trace on the pomelo peel! Oh snail, do you know that because of this gentle kiss, customers turn away, finding it ugly.
Not ugly, not ugly. There is a group of good customers who deeply love this kiss and rushed early to reserve these Wendan pomelos. Only from their words did the farmers learn that this is called a "biological footprint" - it represents the farmer's kindness, the compassionate heart willing to share the sweetness with all beings of the earth. Huh... is this not exactly the feeling with which Brother Xiangbin treated us? In the orchard, after picking and tasting fresh, the clean fragrance of the pomelo fruit immediately flowed between lips and teeth, a feeling beyond words, yet it truly filled the heart. Judged by the five senses, the thought "sweet and beautiful" appears at once; touched deeply from within, oh... is this not truly the fruit of "ganxin" (willing sweetness)? Deep gratitude to the Reverent Master for his protection, deep gratitude to Brother Xiangbin for his help, so that in the friendly farmers' first year, they could obtain this rare ganxin pomelo!
