Agricultural school restructured into a comprehensive high school, horticulture department faces uneven teaching resources
Editor's note: After NewsMarket reporters recently published the report "Less than 20% of agricultural school graduates enter the field Where is the Taiwan, China version of 'Silver Spoon'?", it sparked an enthusiastic response and drew readers' attention to the current state of development of agricultural vocational high schools, the foundation of agricultural vocational and technical education. To this end, NewsMarket commissioned reporter He Jiahao to go to the teaching front lines and bring back first-hand observations, hoping to help all sectors understand the situation.
Guanxi High School, located in the hometown of mesona
Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County, is called the hometown of mesona because its hilly terrain and climatic conditions are very suitable for cultivating mesona. Other crops such as rice, tea, citrus, shiitake mushrooms and tomatoes are also well known there, making it a place where agriculture is the main industry.
Guanxi High School is a school with a 90-year history. Before it was restructured into Guanxi High School in the 92nd year of the Republic of China, it had been an agricultural vocational school for 79 years and was known as Guanxi Agricultural Vocational High School. It currently has about 1,000 students, with 12 classes in the senior high school division, 12 classes in the vocational high school division, and 3 classes in the vocational skills division, for a total of 27 classes.
It appears to be a school with roughly half senior high school division students and half vocational high school division students, but according to the statistics in Guanxi High School's 98th-year quality improvement outcomes report, the general division (including the comprehensive high school academic program) had 283 students, vocational categories (including the comprehensive high school vocational program) had 612 students, plus 41 students in the comprehensive vocational skills division. It can be seen that although it was restructured into a high school, it is still a school whose student body is mainly composed of vocational category students.
