Great Cold Brings Good Fortune Water Garden Has Food, Fun and Great Gifts
This is the story of a group of farmers who are changing Taiwan through friendly, natural farming. And the end of the NTU Organic Farmer's Market is the beginning of that story. When the only organic farmers' market in Taipei closed, it meant that a community connecting land, ecology, farmers and dining tables would brew up an even deeper force; the farmers, standing up on their own strength, rebuilt a distinctive new organic cultural market at the Tap Water Garden in the NTU Gongguan shopping district.
Under the guidance of the Agriculture and Food Agency of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan and the Taipei Water Department, the market is composed of many distinctive organic smallholders from various places, including the four-generation tea-making Pinglin organic tea smallholder Shifang Organic Farm, the Jiujiu Peak top-grade organic asparagus of Qiu Shunnan who went from China Steel engineer to asparagus expert, the Songye Garden Organic Natural Farm run by Liang Xiaoling who gave up medicine for farming, the top-grade organic Imperial Banana of Liu Huangbin who went from career soldier to banana expert, the Hongqi top-grade organic pineapple that refused a double-price order from the mainland, the Lohas Organic Farm of an English teacher turned farmer, the honest man Ma Qinggong who switched from Advanced Semiconductor Engineering to organic jujubes and guavas, the Ougenli Organic Farm where international volunteers cultivate together, the He Xinle Organic Farm red dragon fruit of the natural spring area in Zhuangwei, Yilan, the Daluolan Organic Vegetable and Fruit Farm that once sold out in an hour at NTU, the Gengmutian Organic Farm of the husband-and-wife English cram school teachers Zeng Weidi who switched to organic agriculture, the Chulu Organic Coffee that irrigates its coffee fields with deep sea water, the Yuanyi Organic Farm carefully selected by the Pingtung Banana Research Institute, the Qingxinyuan Organic Farm specializing in cucumbers, the Baili Organic Farm specializing in organic lotus root and mango, the Canaan Organic Farm of the Shijian Church organic village, the Datong Organic Farm that insists on health, non-toxicity and environmental protection, the Grace Organic Farm focusing on organic citrus fruits, the Ya Baobao Organic Farm with innovative fine plants, the Gengji Organic Farm from Chiayi that has cultivated for more than 20 years, the Dou Zhi Wei Tofu Workshop founded to support Taiwan farmers growing black beans and soybeans, the Wei Wantian Organic Tofu from the back mountains of Hualien, the Peifang Organic Farm whose quality has won long-term orders from Breeze Super... and more.
And to promote healthy, organic concepts, the market's volunteer promoters also held a series of activities, including the Water Garden Organic Fiber Food Carnival, water resource environmental education and parent-child lectures, smallholder story-sharing lectures, and the "International Water Dance Festival" combining ecology and dance performances.
