Changji Tai'an used expired, moldy, insect-infested eggs to remake liquid egg, which has already flowed to Kuai Kuai; the quantity and items remain to be investigated.
A month ago, Taiwan's second-largest egg supplier, "Changji Tai'an Egg Products Company" (Changji Tai'an for short) and "Taiding Mountain Agricultural Products Co., Ltd." were exposed for mixing expired egg products into tainted liquid eggs. Taoyuan health authorities seized 531 kg of tainted liquid eggs at the Changji Tai'an Taoyuan plant, all of which were sealed at the time. According to prosecutors' investigations, the bakery sections of Carrefour stores had all used the tainted liquid eggs, and the liquid egg section of the Taoyuan plant was fully suspended from operation.
Now (the 26th) there is a new development in the search. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office obtained Changji Tai'an's account books, mobile phones, computers and other transaction records, showing that since the 100th year of the Republic of China era (2011), Changji had been recovering near-expiry or already expired egg products from channel operators, repackaging them in plastic boxes, and printing false manufacturing dates and expiration dates to package them as new boxed eggs; in addition, it knocked damaged-looking eggs into liquid egg (liquid eggs), or made liquid egg from spoiled, moldy, or worm-infested egg products (moldy eggs, worm-infested eggs), then covered them with fresh liquid egg and resold them to food manufacturers to make related products for consumers to eat.
It has been confirmed that Changji's expired liquid eggs also flowed to Kuai Kuai Company. As for how many Kuai Kuai products are involved? Which items and in what quantities? The section chief surnamed Guan of the Food and Drug Division of the Taoyuan City Health Bureau only stated that 621 kg of biscuit skins being made at the plant with expired liquid egg had all been destroyed, and 632 boxes of finished Peacock Roll biscuits made with expired liquid egg had also been sealed.
As for how many products in the downstream market are affected? What are the quantities and distribution channels? When will they be taken off shelves? Guan said Kuai Kuai Company is still auditing its account books; Chiu Hsiu-yi, director of the Northern Regional Management Center of the Food and Drug Administration, also said that the Taoyuan City Health Bureau is still further clarifying batch numbers and products, and the FDA will hold the Health Bureau accountable and supervise it to complete follow-up recall operations as soon as possible, and also called on businesses to remove problematic products from shelves on their own.
