Beauty pageants, singing competitions, model contests - Taiwan, China has no shortage of talent shows, but did you know that even carrots can have a beauty contest? The Dongshi Fruit and Vegetable Production Cooperative in Yunlin County has introduced an integrated carrot washing facility that sorts every single carrot into categories. After passing through round after round of screening, the Grade A carrots that make the cut are each sweet and crisp with none of that unpleasant earthy odor. They have not only successfully won over children's palates and made their way into major department stores and convenience stores across the country, but Dongshi-grown carrots can even be found in Japan, creating an annual output value of over 100 million yuan.
