Fu'an Working Holiday: Hands-On Building of a Wooden Gazebo and a Clay Pizza Oven
On the gentle hills at the entrance to the Northern Cross-Island Highway, on the edge of the Xueshan Range, stands a nearly sixty-year-old elementary school -- Fu'an Elementary School. Here old trees form shade, and the grounds are open and free. There are Indigenous children who live up in the mountains, and there are also descendants of Minnan and Hakka settlers from the old town of Daxi. At this meeting point of the Xueshan Range and the Dahan River, the leisurely quiet of soft breezes and swaying tree shadows still remains.
Now, let us roll up our sleeves and work together to add a touch of natural wild charm to this little school in the hills, and jointly build a wooden pavilion and a clay PIZZA oven!
Working Holiday Description
This working holiday is mainly divided into two parts. Stage one: we will build a wooden pavilion on a concrete base about 6 m long and 6 m wide. Once the pavilion is finished, stage two will build a clay wood-fired PIZZA oven beneath the pavilion. Below are the details of the working holiday:

Time:3/23-24 (Sat-Sun), 4/13-14 (Sat-Sun), 4/27 (Sat), three sessions in total.

. Getting to know and use woodworking tools
. Measuring, erecting posts, installing beams and triangular truss structures

. Waterproofing, anti-rot and insect-proofing of woodwork; getting to know natural lacquer and eco-friendly paint
. Roof board nailing and waterproofing work
Three, 4/27 0900-1700
. Design principles of a clay wood-fired kiln and building the kiln body
Fee:Per session1000yuan per person; sign up for the full program for a discounted 2500 yuan per person. Fees are paid on the day of the activity.
Love to Eat: Meals during the activity arebought and eaten together, with costs shared equally.
Love to Work: The meaning of a working holiday lies in -- using your own vacation time to take part in voluntary or public-interest work. So besides personal learning during the working holiday, the main point is to contribute your own strength to society. Therefore, to avoid too many participants affecting the work, when there are too many applicants the organizer reserves the right to accept or not accept them.
