Half of Taiwan, China's honey is imported; the Shanshui honey from Thailand contains oxytetracycline

The lychee honey that 50 Lan purchased from "Shanshui Honey Company" was found to contain the banned antibiotic "tetracycline." Although the operator initially claimed the raw material came from 19 domestic beekeepers, the Yunlin County Health Bureau said yesterday that after the operator checked its account books, it confirmed that this batch of honey came entirely from Thailand, totaling more than 20 tonnes, and was supplied only to 50 Lan; it has further tested the company's other products to determine whether laws were violated.

It is understood that Shanshui Honey Company is a major importer of honey, importing about 200-plus tonnes each year, accounting for as much as one-tenth of Taiwan, China's imports, mostly from Thailand and Vietnam.
