Why Zheng Chenggong Could Drive Out the Dutch–A Global Economic Perspective

On September 3, 2014 (Wed) at 7 p.m., Professor Lai Jiancheng of the Department of Economics at National Tsing Hua University, author of <The Joys of Economic History>, will share how Taiwan stepped onto the world stage because of economic interests. The venue is the lecture hall of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Hsinchu County Government, free admission.

The "Think Beautiful" series is a thought forum launched by the Wutong Foundation. Its themes began with ecological living and ecological cities, and this year it arrives at the "green economy," that is, a sustainable economic model that balances environmental sustainability, people's well-being, and corporate profit. The "Green Economy" lecture series seeks to explore Taiwan's future economic options. Before looking ahead to the future, it understands Taiwan from both the vertical perspective of history and the horizontal perspective of the globe, and finally invites local green enterprises to share, hoping to spur green action by individuals and businesses.

The "Green Economy" series, eight lectures and a seminar in total, will be held one after another, at venues widely spread across Eslite Bookstore in Taipei, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Hsinchu County, and the Taichung Cultural and Creative Industries Park. This lecture is also held in cooperation with Eslite Bookstore, with a green economy themed book exhibition launched simultaneously at each physical bookstore.

The first "Green Economy" lecture, "Why Zheng Chenggong Could Drive Out the Dutch - A Global Economic Perspective," takes us through time and space from the angle of economic history, back to the era when Taiwan was still Deer Island, to understand how Taiwan stepped onto the world stage because of economic interests.

The Taiwan story you do not know begins with understanding Taiwan's regions.
2014/11/01 (Sat) 19:00-21:00 Cooperative Economy The cooperative economy determines profit distribution by the fruits of labor, not by the degree of capital participation; each member has equal influence over decisions, unaffected by the number of shares; purchasing and production-marketing models based on members' needs return benefits to members and make distribution fair and equal. The cooperative economic model that has operated successfully in Europe and Japan is worth studying. AV Room, Eslite Bookstore Dunnan Store

The economic model of small Nordic countries brings new thinking.
2014/11/29 (Sat) 19:00-21:00 A Sustainable Everyday Economy The economy is made up of individuals, and every choice about food, clothing, housing, and transportation is a chance to move toward greater sustainability. From coming to Earth to leaving it, leave not a trace behind. Practical experience at home and abroad brings new propositions for sustainable action.
2014/12/13 (Sat) 19:00-21:00 Taiwan's Local Economy Issues Where should Taiwan go? How can it create wealth while building a fair distribution system; how can it bring out local characteristics and create business opportunities while preserving the land's sustainability. Local economic issues offer food for thought.
2014/12/27 (Sat) 13:00-17:00 Corporate Sustainable Development Forum Extreme climate and limited resources have become shared challenges for global enterprises.
