Imagining the value sequence of farmland environments, starting from Uncle's occupation column
I once wondered how the occupation field should be filled in for the smallholder farmers of the Gongliao uplands: farmer or farmwife? Conservation steward? Fisheries resource caretaker? Water resource steward? Gene bank officer? I once listed which government agencies healthy farmland like the Gongliao water terraces should actually be cooperating with: the Forestry Bureau? the Agriculture and Food Agency? the Fisheries Agency? the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau? the Water Resources Agency? the Department of Health? the Environmental Protection Administration? the Ministry of Education? the Ministry of Culture? the Water Resources Agency?
That impressive! Even the old men laughed when they heard it. Among these, "tending the water and watching over the stream" is the side job they most agree with.
Come to think of it, after going around in circles, if there were such an approach of ranking farmland values, the farmers cultivating on that land might carry different environmental conservation tasks, and their occupation field really could be filled in with more missions from different industries: subsidence prevention officer, nutrition and health care officer, food ark keeper…. Therefore, we should also treat farmers' environmental production with more courtesy, and the related industry support should be done as it should be done, because this is no longer merely a question of farmers' survival, but a question of how we treat our common survival.
A year and a half on, the BLOG has just about gone a full round of explaining the workings of traditional farming, and in the coming winter, the land and farmers up in the mountains enter a stage of rest and recuperation; the BLOG will not grow weeds, so we will take the environmental services we have not yet clearly explained and explore together how they might work and how they might have an impact.

As a member of the Environmental Consumer Protection Alliance, we want to show everyone the service report that the water terraces provide to all of us; it was published in the following installments one after another, and since cultural services are scattered throughout each piece, we will not specially search them out:
• Hydrological regulation, water supply:
Imagining the era when the stream water rose and fell but little
The volunteer who quietly looks after the tap water of Ruibin, Keelung
• Biodiversity support, support for the productivity of forests, streams, rivers and seas:
What the fish, shrimp and crabs taught me
The aquatic plant forest, see you next year
Agricultural stream ecological survey - the kingdom of the minute in the paddy field
Agricultural stream ecological survey - the distracted rice-cutting method
The international airport in the rice paddy
The "chicken" certification of Gongliao Hehe rice
The yellow-bellied slender damselfly and its Gongliao neighbors
• Food supply, pollination regulation services, agricultural productivity support:
How to let you meet me, when I am at my most beautiful
