How was the green catering platform GreenDrinks established?

General News By Emily Carter 0 views

Following March's Green Drinks, which broke the record with over 50 attendees, including friends who came all the way from Chiayi and Kaohsiung to join in, we brought together many people who are planning green restaurants, as well as teachers and students with backgrounds in the food and beverage industry. Green Drinks focuses on discussion and exchange, building network connections for the friends who take part, and some participants suggested that Xia Mi set up a green dining discussion platform so that friends from the events can keep in touch and share information.

April's Green Drinks will not only share the story of the Korean green restaurant SLOBBIE (whose founder Young-mi Han came to Taiwan to share in March, and the restaurant was even featured in the Lonely Planet guide), but also, through discussion and exchange, let friends who are meant to meet build connections, and we hope everyone will pool their ideas to brainstorm mechanisms for establishing a green dining platform.

A brief introduction to Xia Mi:
This is not just a restaurant, but also a small space for environmental advocacy. We hope to steadily purchase local, seasonal agricultural products, solve farmers' sales difficulties, raise Taiwan's food self-sufficiency rate, and use contract farming to help conventional farming methods transition to sustainable agriculture, reducing the pollution of mountains, rivers and soil by pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and defending farmers' right to be free from harm by toxic substances. On the consumer side, we provide healthy and delicious meals, and every purchase is a force for protecting Taiwan's environment.

This is also a group that proves that a business (and if it can one day become a conglomerate, a conscientious conglomerate, so much the better) can bring positive help to society and the environment. We hope to use an indigenous-tribe-style way of operating and become a socially advocacy-oriented enterprise; the existence of this restaurant is not for making money, but making money is for keeping the restaurant alive. Let us use the power of eating to defend the Earth. Rice/You too can change the world!
