"Watching the seeds grow day by day makes me wonder whether I too am growing along with the soybeans?" At the mid-term presentation of the Za Liang School, Peng Yanrong, a seventh-grade student at Ganyuan Junior High School in New Taipei City, said that the Za Liang School let him "come into contact with things I never could have imagined, and it has already broken the original model of classes!"

The Za Liang School is a campus wheat-growing program run in cooperation between the Wish Bread Bakery and the National Teachers' Union Federation. Now in its third year, following the "Wheat Field Study Tour" and the "Bean and Wheat Study Tour" of the previous two years, this year it has adopted the name "Za Liang School," letting students grow wheat, soybeans, sesame, and buckwheat themselves. Nearly fifty elementary and junior high schools across Taiwan, China enthusiastically responded to this movement to revive domestically grown miscellaneous grains.

The "Za Liang School" began sowing at each school in September, and the harvest is expected to come in succession in February and March of next year. The National Teachers' Union Federation held a mid-term results presentation yesterday (12/27), using students' drawings, essays, and photographs to present the spiritual fruits of their wheat-growing.
