Double Tenth Celebration Hands-On: Build an Insect Hotel, Make Delicious Tofu
Auntie A: "How can I buy rice that truly needs no pesticides?!"

Satoyama Juku: "Then trust your own eyes. Come on a trip to the place where it is grown, and learn how to certify pesticide-free rice paddies through indicator species in the rice field!"
In fact, besides clean water sources having indicator species, it turns out organic rice paddies also have indicator species. In recent years, in order to study just what ecosystem services pesticide-free rice paddies provide, experts and scholars unexpectedly discovered that pesticide-free rice paddies also have indicator species: "Is the farmland ecosystem healthy or not? Just look at the spiders", "Is the rice paddy habitat great or not? Get it certified by long-legged spiders and orange ladybugs". And this research project has also moved from eastern Taiwan to the west!! Hee! Hee! As it happens, Satoyama Juku is also one of the sample areas of this project. So on this meaningful Double Tenth National Day, we want to invite everyone to come and be a”citizen scientist", and help out with the survey together. Families with parents and children who love ecology, insects and field research should not miss this great opportunity to learn through fun!
Besides being a citizen scientist and helping to build insect hotels by hand, of course, what Satoyama Juku loves most is still asking everyone to love the land through ”eating”! On 10/8, "The Taste of Tofu", please come and make tofu and eat tofu together. Perhaps, because of the convenience of eating out, everyone no longer needs to go to the trouble of making tofu at home to eat. But everyone should give themselves a chance, through the process of doing it, to understand how the food they may eat for a lifetime is made, and how it affects our health as well as the world we live in.
Just how does soy milk coagulate into tofu? Will differences in coagulants affect the texture or health? What are the differences between genetically modified beans and non-GMO beans, and how should they be identified? What are the advantages and disadvantages of genetically modified crops? What do leguminous plants in nature look like, and what other amazing effects do they have? Let us accompany you to explore together!
