Temporary Grandchildren Unite

Today (the 26th), on Grandparents Day, everyone carries luggage together at the train station

Although Xiao Juan only becomes a high school student in September, he has already quietly carried luggage three times at Taipei Main Station. Lean but full of energy, he carries a sign reading "Temporary Grandson Helps You Carry Luggage" and hangs a sweat towel from the Good People Movement around his neck as he moves through the third and fourth platforms of Taipei Main Station carrying luggage for the elderly. Seniors who were initially worried about having their luggage taken gave him a thumbs-up when they saw the words "Good People Movement" on his towel, saying, "You are better behaved than my own grandson!"

More than 200 volunteers have signed up so far, spread across 20 train stations throughout Taiwan to carry luggage. However, most are still at the major stations, and more temporary grandchildren are welcome to join the service at smaller train stations. Sign up with us, and Xiao Yi at the Good People Hall will give you suggestions. Phone: 02-23223923.

Today is Grandparents Day, and the passionate, warm-hearted "temporary grandchildren" have gone to the train stations to help the elderly carry their luggage, expanding their connection into a caring action for Grandparents Day. From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today (the 26th), a total of 212 temporary grandchildren are on standby on the platforms of 20 train stations throughout Taiwan to carry luggage for grandparents. This group of temporary grandchildren is openly urging friends, relatives and neighbors to take advantage of this extraordinary day, the 26th, to bring grandparents, parents or elders out for a walk, and not to forget to give these temporary grandchildren a chance to show what they can do. The temporary grandchildren will wear sweat towels printed with the words "Good People Movement" or their own towels, standing by at Keelung, Badu, Xizhi, Taipei, Wanhua, Banqiao, Taoyuan, Zhongli, Neili, Puxin, Hsinchu, Zhunan, Taichung, Changhua, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Fengshan, Pingtung, Taitung, Yuli, Hualien and Yilan, so please make good use of the service.

What is deeply moving is that the "temporary grandchildren" have received an overwhelming response, with enthusiastic volunteers answering the call from north to south. From Keelung Station to Pingtung Station, touching platform stories keep unfolding one after another. At Badu Station, a female teacher brought 15 students from Dingnei Junior High School to adopt the initiative; at Taipei Station, twin first-year high school students Xiao Juan and Hexing have connected 15 people in a relay, with Hsinchu Freight, Mengtian Cultural and Creative, and the Love & Smile Association lending support; at Wanhua Station, students from Tamkang University and Shipai Junior High School take the lead; at Zhongli Station, 20 passionate employees from Kaiyou Company have taken on the whole effort; at Hsinchu Station, the long-time farmer-supporting Accton Technology Corporation and partners from the Accton Charity Hall are the main force; at Taichung Station, it is truly a super family gathering of temporary grandchildren, with the Water Source Foundation and the Family Education Center sending nearly 50 volunteers, plus the Red Cross offering free blood pressure checks as a bonus; in Chiayi, a cross-school group of 16 college friends, a combination of pretty girls and handsome guys, takes the stage; at Kaohsiung Station, netizens who have never met gather together, with 15 people relying on Good People Movement towels as their token of recognition; at Pingtung Station, there is a grand contingent of 35 family members and friends; at Hualien Station, 20 able-bodied members from Hope Home take charge, and 8 skilled members of the Guofeng Junior High School taekwondo team are ready to show their strength carrying luggage... The scene is sure to be moving and spectacular.

These volunteers want to offer society some care in the simplest way. Everyone spontaneously gives their time and energy, with no fundraising and no reward. Their greatest hope is that more real grandchildren will accompany their grandparents out for a walk.

Many shy volunteers have in fact long been quietly practicing carrying luggage, so that they will not know how to react if refused; some volunteers mock themselves, saying that when they walk down the street and see someone who needs help, they blurt out: Do you need me to carry your luggage? ... Stories of good people are happening on the land of Taiwan, and more goodwill is converging into a warm current in Taiwan. The volunteers say with one heart: More temporary grandchildren are welcome to join the service at remote train stations. Registration phone: 02-23223923, Good People Hall.

The most special thing is still happening. Yesterday, the Agency of Corrections of the Ministry of Justice quietly launched a campaign to write letters to grandparents, including the Taipei Juvenile Observation and Protection Center, the Taoyuan Juvenile Reform School, the Tainan Juvenile Reform School, Hsinchu Chengzheng High School and the Changhua Juvenile Reform School. These two days they have a "heart" holiday assignment: write a letter to Grandpa.

In these two days, more than one thousand young people in Taiwan society will quietly write letters.

This is truly what makes me happiest.

The good idea hair salon and the Buddhist altar shop on Hangzhou South Road, where the Good People Hall is located, have decided to offer discounts on that day to any grandpa or grandma who comes to wash their hair or buy Buddhist altar supplies.

The passionate shops on Danyang Street welcome volunteers to come for lunch at noon. At several restaurants, simply showing the sweat towel from the Good People Movement gets you a free side dish or black tea.

Everyone can use their own way to celebrate Grandparents Day and join the luggage-carrying movement.

Luggage-Carrying Games Time August 26 at 8:30 a.m. Location Train stations across Taiwan

Help the elderly carry their luggage. Young people can carry their own, and meanwhile start helping on the spot.

Slogan: Need help? We'll carry your luggage for you.

Luggage-Carrying Rules

1. In other areas, whoever signs up first shall serve as the convener. The convener basically does nothing; just having a name attached and serving as a direction indicator is enough.

2. This activity provides no insurance and no benefits whatsoever. Please go on your own and do it on your own. When you are tired, go home; you owe no one anything. Remember to greet your own grandpa and grandma.

3. Do not fall down at the train station; it looks terrible, and there is no insurance. Please be sure to be careful.

4. Do not argue with others; this is a good activity. If something happens, just keep it in your heart; do not curse out loud.

5. If you run into a clueless train station, remember to go home and write it up as feedback and send it to the Good People Gang.

6. Do not grab luggage to carry it; that would be illegal.

7. Remember to bring plenty of water. The train station is actually wary of you, so it will not give you water to drink. This is our experience; if you meet someone who gives you water, remember to tell me.

8. If the elderly are so moved that they give you candy or cookies, please accept them; they are treating you as their own grandchild. Remember to bring tissues; sometimes the scene is hard to control.

9. Do not keep staring at girls in a creepy way; your reputation will suffer. If a girl is carrying a lot of luggage, of course you can help, but do not help only pretty girls.

10. Carry luggage down the stairs and to the platform; you do not necessarily have to carry it onto the train. We are not paid, and going onto the platform again requires buying a ticket.

11. For strollers, separate the person and the stroller as much as possible; otherwise at least the parents should carry it together. Do not force yourself to do it alone.

12. Those who sign up can all put their names together and invite the president or his wife--that is, the first lady, to come carry luggage together. They rarely travel by carrying luggage.

13. The same goes for legislators.

14. Finally, although carrying luggage is a good deed, do not obstruct traffic; train stations are very crowded.

When I think of how my mom and dad often get lost at train stations, I think of my late grandpa and grandma, who barely left home in their final years. Is your family the same?
