Autumn is the season for eating pomelo. Whether at the place of origin or in the consumer market, green mini-mountains of pomelo can be seen everywhere, rushing to hit the shelves before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
By custom, pomelo is mostly harvested around the 10 days before and after the White Dew solar term of the lunar calendar (around September 7 or 8 on the Gregorian calendar). Once White Dew and the Mid-Autumn Festival fall close together, farmers face enormous sales pressure, because once the Mid-Autumn Festival passes, pomelo buying enthusiasm falls straight down, and the price curve slides down along with it like a slide.

Agricultural authorities estimate that although this year's pomelo production is slightly less than last year's, the Mid-Autumn Festival and White Dew are only 4 days apart, the shortest gap in the past five years, so the pressure to move the harvest and face falling prices is very great. Therefore, in addition to actively holding promotions, they are also providing many creative dishes and recipes related to pomelo, hoping that pomelo will not only be positioned as a fruit for Mid-Autumn Festival gifts, but also as an everyday ingredient that can be put to good use in cooking.

Although everyone is encouraged to consume more pomelo, dietitian Zhong Jia-lun of the Lin-Sen Chinese Medicine Campus of Taipei City Hospital also reminds that pomelo is tender and juicy and rich in vitamin C and dietary fiber, making it a good healthy choice, but it must be eaten in just the right amount; eating too much fiber may cause abdominal bloating and excessively rapid gastrointestinal movement. Therefore, patients with gastrointestinal discomfort or diarrhea should control their intake to an appropriate amount.
Zhong Jia-lun explains that two slices of pomelo, 160 grams, contain about 60 kcal, equivalent to one serving of fruit, and contain 15 grams of sugar. Diabetics in particular should be careful not to consume too much, so as not to affect their health.
