Master A-Lin of Hunei, Kaohsiung, raises toxin-free shrimp

General News By Emily Carter 0 views

By the end of March, the coast of Kaohsiung already carries an unstoppable hint of summer heat. The scorching sun stings the tip of your nose, declaring that southern Taiwan and the cold front chill of the north are two different worlds. The Haipu settlement in Hunei lies at the northern edge of Greater Kaohsiung, facing Tainan City across the Erren River, with the easily reachable Qieding District nearby, home to the Xingda deep-sea fishing port, Lover's Pier, and the seafood street, as well as an extension of Tainan's Golden Coast.

Although the Haipu settlement is not directly on the coast, its seaside location and the extremely high salt content of the soil make it unsuitable for farming. During the Japanese colonial period, agricultural irrigation water was brought in, but later, with the development of local aquaculture, it was converted to aquaculture use. As a result, life in the Haipu settlement is inseparable from the ocean and aquaculture, and the subject of this visit, "Alin Shih Anxin Shrimp," was cultivated in exactly this natural environment.
