Self-sufficiency carries the dream of agricultural development
Heaven grants people a rich capacity for feeling, allowing them to quietly observe the mystery of all things endlessly renewing themselves and to experience the beauty of nature and the moving power of things. Yet more and more people choose to wrap their senses in concrete cities, paying the price of losing the ability to converse with all living things. After that, they can no longer hear the sound of rice stretching upward, nor imagine the feeling of looking forward to flowers blooming. When the heart's sensitivity grows dull, how can life be rich and fulfilling?
"In the half-farming, half-X life, although monetary income is meager, spiritual income is abundant."
From sowing a single seed and touching the soil, you open your heart and rediscover your connection with all things, beginning a simple and satisfying life of sustainable farming. On the other hand, you pursue your own dream, using your innate talents to earn a regular income. Living a half-farming, half-X life, spiritual fulfillment no longer depends on endless consumption, and you are no longer chased by money and desire. People who pursue the half-farming, half-X life always enjoy with great seriousness and care a life and way of being that can be easily satisfied.
On golden, plump ears of wheat, tiny bright red ladybugs sway with the waves of grain. Guanyu leads us, stepping skillfully along the ridges between fields, counting and sharing the treasures he has observed between heaven and earth. For example, the inconspicuous weeds by his feet are actually dishes that can be brought to the table, and after rain the plants grow even healthier. Many valuable insights from the fields can only be accumulated through long and delicate observation.
"Actually, I just hang around the fields with an attitude of refusing to leave. Here I can spend a whole day watching how plants grow, chatting with the farmers in the neighboring fields, and even just spacing out in the field brings many rewards. I think everyone probably finds me a bit odd. People of my age and background should be in the city, so why do I always go the opposite way from their children and grandchildren, rushing desperately to the countryside?"
The water spinach clay pellets Guanyu dropped earlier have already sprouted, unfolding from the seeds into Y-shaped cotyledons, as if shouting "YA!" in celebration of the joy of breaking through the soil and sprouting.
Because I met Guanyu, whether it was about the feasibility of natural farming or the half-farming, half-X way of life, he gave me many affirmative answers. Having a dream is an expression of vitality, but many people choose to seal it away and hurriedly step into society, drifting with the current.
Taiwan, China's grain self-sufficiency rate is extremely low. I think the self-sufficiency rate of dreams is very low too!
Before summoning the courage to plant a dream, first recover that sensitivity that nature grants to people. Sensitivity allows us to experience the subtle changes of all things and helps us search for what we want to do and what we love. As long as we search with care, we can naturally plunge into our dreams without hesitation.
