The Memory of Plain Rice: Old Times in a Bowl of Rice
I have always been very interested in cooking. As I was getting ready to cook, the first difficult thing I discovered was: how do you cook rice so that it tastes good?
After practicing many times, I finally cooked a pot of rice that earned praise~^^
The more I cooked, the more food memories were dug up in my mind. When I was little and came home from school, Mom would be busy in the kitchen, and then she would call me in to help ”stir” the rice in the electric cooker. As a child, because I was watching TV after school, I really disliked being called to stir the rice
So I asked Mom why she did it. Mom always said, I do not know, Grandma said so, the rice has to be stirred and left to steam a bit before it tastes good!!!!!!
Being able to cook a whole table of good food is actually very moving. In my memory, when I was little everyone always ate together at the big round table. After work or school, everyone gathered together, eating and chatting. I remember that every time we went back to Grandma’s house, when Grandma saw us she always asked~ Are you full yet?
But nowadays people’s lives get busier and busier. After school there are cram schools to go to, and for those working overtime, the time they get off is not fixed. How much time is there to gather together and eat~ Is what we want to have really what we need? If even the time to properly eat a meal has to be sacrificed…………………………………
Now that I cook for myself, I am also in the habit of stirring the cooked rice
Because Grandma said, the rice has to be stirred before it tastes good!!!
Stirring the rice after it is cooked helps the excess steam escape~The rice will be fluffier, more fragrant, Q and elastic~So stirring really does make it taste better~!
