ILHAFORMOSA - The Breathtaking Qingshui Cliff (2013 Kuroshio Ocean University Event Series

The land we live on is an island,

An island right beside the ocean,

Yet we are just as unfamiliar with the sea,

Few people have truly seen what the island we live on looks like.

They say the east coast has steep black cliffs rising straight from the sea, standing between land and ocean,

Walking among them, the surging sound of the tide never leaves your ears,

Sailing before them, the fresh scent of the forest lingers over the Pacific without pause.

Because we are children of the island,

I want to invite you,

To see our island from a different angle,

To see the majestic, awe-inspiring Qingshui Cliff.

I want to gather,

Our heartbeats, our gasps of wonder, our voices reading poetry,

And give them to the one standing above the Pacific,

Qingshui Cliff.

Event dates: 2013/6/15-6/16

Who can join: Anyone 15 or older who wants to experience Qingshui Cliff from both sea and land perspectives

Event fee: 2,180 yuan (does not include round-trip transportation to Hualien or accommodation; includes two meals)

Event locations: Pacific Ocean, Qingshui Cliff, Suhua Old Trail, Chongde Bay, fixed fishing nets, Dakili

 

Event itinerary:

Day 1 Hualien Train Station → Qingshui Cliff → Chongde Bay → Dakili → Hualien Train Station

11:50 Meet at Hualien Train Station

12:00 Take a tour bus to Qingshui Cliff

12:45 The mountain perspective - explore the Qing Dynasty Northern Route (you may bring your own snacks to replenish energy during breaks)

15:45 Entrance to the Suhua seaside trail

16:10 The coastal perspective - stroll along Chongde Bay beach

17:30 Walk to the fixed fishing nets

18:10 Taste Dakili Taroko-style cuisine

20:00 Return to Hualien Train Station

Day 2 Hualien Train Station → Whale-Watching Pier → Qingshui Cliff → Whale-Watching Pier → Hualien Train Station

04:00 Meet at Hualien Train Station

04:15 Take a tour bus to Hualien Whale-Watching Pier

04:30 The ocean perspective - sail toward the Pacific and Qingshui Cliff, waiting for sunrise at sea.

08:00 Return to Hualien Port

08:30 Enjoy a fisherman's brunch

10:00 Take a tour bus back to Hualien Train Station and disband

How to register:

1. Register online.

2. Accepted participants will be notified by email; please pay within one week by remittance or ATM transfer to secure your spot.

4. If the procedure is not completed by the deadline, the spot will not be reserved. Thank you for your understanding.

Notes:

1. Each session accepts 35 participants, admitted in order of registration, until each session is full.

2. If a typhoon or other force majeure event occurs, or if fewer than 20 people register, the event will be cancelled.

Refunds:

1. Accepted participants who cannot attend for personal reasons: cancel 7 days or more before departure and 80% of the fee will be refunded; cancel within 7 days of departure and no refund will be given.

2. If the event is cancelled, the full fee will be refunded.

A few reminders:

1. On the first day, remember to go to bed early and rest so you are refreshed for the morning sail on the second day. If you sleep in, the boat will leave without you!

2. Wear clothes, pants and shoes suitable for exercise, hiking and getting dirty.

3. On the first day, try to avoid wearing jeans or cotton pants (they do not dry easily if it rains).

4. During the trip, we suggest bringing your own water bottle and eco-friendly utensils (bowl, chopsticks).

5. Please bring your own rain gear (a raincoat is better); it often rains in Chongde in the afternoon.
