2012 Gongliao Water Environment Knowledge Workshop, Summer Experience with Aquatic Life
Discovering that the fragile growth model of a directly administered municipality is increasingly unable to withstand the test of climate, we came to Gongliao, embraced by mountains and sea, and could not help but imagine whether the water terraces on the mountain back then really, as the farmers said, received the heavy rain basin by basin and then slowly released it into the streams. In the torrential rain, we rethink: this is one of the many faces of water, only we often forget that it always loses its temper a few times every year, and by forgetting and forgetting, we encroach on its walking territory and abandon the protective line that safeguards us.
So then, let us start over again from here and recover our healthy and safe water environment!
In late August, as we are about to say goodbye to the tail end of summer vacation, we invite education partners in New Taipei City, as well as community workers concerned about streams and wetlands, to take the perspective of aquatic organisms and experience: wading into the cool Fangjiao Creek where pools and rapids are connected, stepping into the water terraces where rice has just been harvested and aquatic plants have taken over freely; from biological phases, environmental functions, observation skills and methods, to thoroughly explore this 'umbilical cord of the water environment where forest closely adjoins paddy fields connected to streams flowing to the sea' (whew, can you read it all in one breath?)!
So there you go - if you have the heart to relearn from nature the true face of the water environment, and if you have the passion to use your profession to protect it, then get ready to fill out the registration form!
