Building the Lunshan Tribe brand, letting the light shine everywhere
Since the bitter tea seeds (Camellia sinensis var. assamica seed) were harvested in October, the busy footsteps of the Lunshan tribe have never paused. Watching the tribe members sit in the warm sunlight, hand-sorting those seeds spread out to dry on the plaza in front of the church and keeping only the plump, whole seeds to be sent for oil pressing, this scene was truly impressive.
Bitter tea oil is the first step in this product series! Pastor Wen also told us in advance that there will be home-brewed plum vinegar, turmeric powder and other great products to come, and asked us to help spread the word as much as possible.
Although Pastor Wen always says there are many places where he needs our help and thanks us very much: what he does not know is that meeting him, getting to know the Lunshan tribe, and knowing that we have such a pastor who is earnest and unassuming, selfless and uncomplaining in his dedication to local tribal development, is actually our good fortune, and it is we who should thank him even more!
[Shanliang Social Enterprise is the social enterprise commissioned by the Lunshan tribe to handle the packaging design and distribution of bitter tea oil in 2013. The proceeds from its sales will go to the Hualien Lunshan tribe and the Taiwan Community Supported Association, which cares for local small farmers, to support more friendly producers in need of help.]
