The woman who gave her whole life to the vineyard

General News By Emily Carter 0 views

When I was little, whenever there was a day off, I could only obediently go to the vineyard, whether or not I could actually help… so I never knew what a day off even felt like.. Growing up, I really hated grapes as a fruit, because they robbed me of my precious holidays… but my mother, from my father's time to now, still does the same thing, riding her bike to the vineyard to report for duty first thing in the morning. This routine has gone on for 40 years without a single complaint. When I first started working at a Liouqing enterprise, I once urged her not to go work at the vineyard anymore, told her to let someone else do it! She said she had been doing it for so long… she had grown attached and could not let go. She laughed and said: I will take care of my health, and rest when I am tired. I will just half-work it and half-let it go…. I knew she was saying that on purpose to put my mind at ease. She cannot do as she says; she will work desperately to complete every stage of work in the vineyard.. In the end her body could not bear it, and she fell ill from years of overwork… As her son, it truly breaks my heart. She has spent her whole life toiling, and she never asked me for anything.. She only hoped to help ease the family finances. But the cost of growing grapes far exceeds the income, simply because she wants to grow delicious grapes, and she does not mind raising the costs. Every season her harvest is exploited by the middlemen… Knowing full well this would be the result, why still do it? It was not until I quit my job and came home to take over her vineyard that I understood… her 20 years of persistence were to protect the fruit trees my father left behind. If it were handed to someone else, they would surely be cut down and replanted… to protect this vineyard, she guarded it with a lifetime… I was truly moved, and I told my mother that from now on I will continue to keep it going, and she does not need to work so hard anymore. I will make the fruit trees my father left behind grow delicious grapes, and I will not let my mother's efforts go to waste….
