Hand-shaken tea storm expands? 7 businesses including Coco and Jack Boy required to preventively pull Four Seasons Spring tea from shelves

General News By Emily Carter 0 views

Pesticide levels exceeding the limit in the upstream raw materials for hand-shaken tea have spread beyond 50 Lan to other downstream operators. Six businesses, including Coco Fresh Tea & Juice, Tai Yang Xin Tea (store sign reads Red Sun) and Jack Boy, all source their tea from the same upstream supplier, San Qing Tea. At present, these businesses have been ordered to take their drinks made with Si Ji Chun (Four Seasons Spring) tea leaves off the shelves as a precaution.

Upstream supplier is the same, but whether it is the same batch of tea leaves with pesticide residue remains to be clarified

This morning the New Taipei City Health Bureau received a self-report from Coco Fresh Tea & Juice, whose tea leaves used in nine drinks, including its green tea, come from the same supplier as 50 Lan, namely San Qing Tea.

Later, after continued inspections, the Tainan City Health Bureau found that, besides supplying 50 Lan and Coco Fresh Tea & Juice, San Qing also supplied its tea leaves to six other businesses including Tai Yang Xin Tea (store sign reads Red Sun) and Jack Boy. However, the Health Bureau has not yet been able to confirm whether the Si Ji Chun tea leaves used by these businesses are from the same batch as 50 Lan's problematic tea leaves. At present, it can only require these 8 businesses to take drinks made with Si Ji Chun tea leaves off the shelves as a precaution.

Coco Fresh Tea & Juice uses tea leaves from San Qing Tea as its upstream supplier for nine drinks, including green tea, naked tea, taro milk tea and fresh grapefruit tea. After the report, the business took them off the shelves as a precaution, and the New Taipei City Health Bureau is conducting spot checks. Lin Kuan-chen, section chief of the Food and Drug Administration Division, stressed that at present it can only be confirmed that the supplier source is the same; whether the same batch of problematic tea leaves was used still must be further clarified.

The Tainan City Health Bureau found that, in addition to 50 Lan, the Si Ji Chun tea leaves produced by San Qing are also supplied to Tai Yang Xin Tea (store sign reads Red Sun), Jack Boy, Xin Xin Yuan, LOHAS Tea, Mi Li Mi Li, Coco Fresh Tea & Juice and Le Fa Xiao Pu. At present, these businesses are only being required to take the relevant tea drinks off the shelves as a precaution.

In the evening, the New Taipei City Health Bureau received a self-report from a business: Hi-Life's "Le Fa Food" also buys Si Ji Chun tea leaves from San Qing Tea. At present, Le Fa Food has taken six products off the shelves as a precaution: Si Ji Qing Tea, Si Ji Qing Milk Tea, Si Ji Qing Latte, Yi Feng Winter Melon Qing, Aloe Si Ji Qing and Pearl Aloe Si Ji Qing. The tea leaves have also been sealed.

In addition, because 50 Lan this morning provided a self-conducted pesticide test report from January showing it passed, and upstream manufacturer San Qing Tea also provided self-conducted pesticide tests from March showing all met standards, this differs from the 0.003 ppm fipronil residue in Si Ji Chun tea leaves found in a spot test by the Taichung City Health Bureau the night before last. The business has now applied to the Taichung City Health Bureau for re-testing.
