Can the Jinsha Heding orchid produce a true lotus-petal form, and what unusual characteristics does it have?
A once-in-a-thousand-years find, the new Cymbidium tortisepalum variety "Jinsha Heding"
When orchid enthusiasts discuss the petal-form flowers of Cymbidium tortisepalum, they believe that Cymbidium tortisepalum, because of its own plant characteristics, cannot produce a true lotus-petal form; the author believes this is one-sided. This year, another new variety in the local area after "Jinsha Shuju" - "Jinsha Heding" - proves this point.
After "Jinsha Shuju", in "Magical Huili", separated from Wangjiang in Yunnan, another heaven-sent masterpiece was discovered, "Jinsha Heding". This flower came down from the mountain in 2004 at the same time as "Jinsha Shuju", collected in bloom, with a total of 4 or 5 plants. It is a pure Cymbidium tortisepalum, with leaves more than 30 cm tall, leaf tips slightly twisted, and leaf texture thick and glutinous, showing a straight dragon-like dehydrated appearance. This year, on the second day of the Lunar New Year, it bloomed for the second time; watered on the third day, measured on the seventh day, the petal length-to-width ratio is: 1.48CM:1.46CM. The three sepals (outer three petals) are broad and large, with a contracted base and a hooded tip; the petals (pouch petals) and the mid-lobe of the lip are short, round, broad, and shaped like a mussel-shell pouch; the petals are thick and glutinous in texture (twice that of an ordinary Cymbidium tortisepalum), belonging to fully fleshy petals; the column is small and flat, round and smooth; the lip (tongue) is large, a typical large round dragon-swallowing tongue; the fragrance is subtle and refreshing, penetrating the heart, long-lasting, and especially fragrant. The entire flower remains in a cupped, embracing shape until it falls, with exceptionally good flower retention.
The world is full of wonders, and the emergence of "Jinsha Heding" in Huili County has precisely filled this gap. From then on, it will change people's views and opinions, and further confirms a famous saying by the leading figure in the orchid world, Teacher Wu Yingxiang: Cymbidium tortisepalum is a crown in the orchid kingdom.
