Also known as Wenpin. Selected in the early years of the Republic of China by Shen Yuanru, owner of the Qianlan Studio in Wuxi. Semi-pendulous leaves, leaf tips slightly blunt, plant form closely resembles Wanzihao. This flower varies considerably in form, often producing both plum-form narcissus and lotus-form narcissus types. When it blooms as plum-form narcissus, the three outer petals are round and tight, the tip slightly pointed, with tight edges and long feet narrowing to the base; the petals are thick and fleshy, the labellum is a soft silkworm-moth shen (two-lobed stamen column), divided into pouches, with a small Liu Hai tongue; when it blooms as lotus-form narcissus, the three outer petals have round tips, long feet narrowing to the base, with flared shoulders, a semi-hard shen, and a large round tongue bearing two thick red stripes. The flower color is emerald green, and the bloom is extremely lavish.

Xizi was discovered in Hangzhou and selected after the victory of the War of Resistance. The color is emerald, the edges tight, the shen round and the tongue rounded, spreading open after a long bloom. This year it bloomed one spike, with a jade-green color and white edging, and the spots on the tongue are a brilliant red. A modest beauty, quiet and elegant, with a distinctive charm when appreciated. Unfortunately the plant is weak and the cultivation is not refined. The spike has not grown tall, so flaws in the bloom are inevitable. It seems that a good bloom of Xizi requires a large pot and strong plants. |
