What are the propagation methods for Gold-veined Strobilanthes?
I. Cutting Method
1. Timing:
It is best to do this after flowering, or during the period from May to June.
2. Substrate Selection:
Taking into comprehensive consideration many factors such as drainage performance, nutrient content, and aeration performance, we can choose river sand or vermiculite.
3. Specific Steps:
After flowering, while cutting off the inflorescence, we can also cut off the flowering branch together with its tip. Be careful that the cut branch is not too long; 5 to 10 cm is sufficient. After cutting it off, we should cut off all the leaves on the lower half, and for the leaves on the upper half, we can keep only half of each. Then, insert them into the substrate we have prepared. Ensure various conditions such as temperature, humidity, and ventilation; after about one month, you can observe that it has taken root. When their leaves grow out, they can be transplanted.
4. Precautions:
When selecting cuttings, you can also choose three or four nodes from the middle section. Also, if cuttings are taken in spring, we can do it together with repotting.
II. Combined Cultivation Method
1. Material Selection:
To increase the chance of survival, we must choose those branches that are robust and free of pests and diseases.
2. Specific Method:
First, carry out water culture. Then, when new branches grow out, we should take it out and soak it in alcohol for about half a minute for disinfection and sterilization. Next, use sterilized scissors to cut off the base of the stem and place it on the culture medium for cultivation. After cultivating for a period of time, take it down, disinfect it, and plant it in the substrate. Ensure sufficient surrounding humidity, and be careful not to expose it to sunlight. By doing this, the success rate can be controlled at around 90 percent.
