How to propagate Echeveria pulvinata 'Frosty' by beheading? Detailed method and steps

1. Prepare the tools

Before beheading it, you must prepare the tools you will use. What we need is a clean growing container and a small knife or utility knife or other tool that is sharp enough to cut quickly.

2. Where to behead

Before cutting or snipping it off, you need to find a good spot. Generally speaking, if you are cutting the thin stem of a plant that has already become leggy, you should start near the top, and do not cut off too long a piece of stem.

In the other case, if we choose a plant with a relatively thick stem and most of its leaves growing near the base, we should cut near the base of the stem. When cutting, it is best to follow the principle of being quick and keeping the cut surface as flat as possible.

3. Drying the plant

For the plant after cutting, we can first dry it. For the cut-off part, we should not rush to plant it; first remove the leaves that are too close to the cut, then place it in a darker place to dry.

Note that when drying, the cut area must not touch water or dust. What we need to do is wait for the cut to dry and shrink on its own. The drying time is generally determined by the size of the stem cut. Also, the cut-off part cannot be placed directly under strong light to dry; it is best to put it in a darker place.

4. Rooting and transplanting

We can prepare some empty bottles or cups, put an appropriate amount of water in them, and then place the cut-off part at the mouth of the bottle.

Be sure not to let the wound touch the water directly, so we must control the water level well; it is best to leave a gap of 5 to 6 mm between the water surface and the wound. In this way, the wound can be kept from contact with dust, and humidity can also be increased. Once the plant has rooted, we can move it into a pot.
