Seedlings that sprout after sowing are prone to dying? Poor management is the main cause
●Light
When the seeds germinate and emerge from the soil, the seedlings are delicate, yet they also need to gradually receive light. At this stage, you should gradually move the seedling tray toward the sunlight, while also being careful to avoid direct sunlight (indirect light is fine).
●Watering
Just spray with water to keep them moist, because you need to prevent both water loss that wilts the seedlings and excess water that rots the roots.
●Fertilizing
During the newly sprouted seedling stage, you can apply diluted liquid fertilizer so that the nutrients needed for growth are supplied.
You can dilute a quick-acting nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer about 1500 times and apply it as a foliar feed once a week. The key points for fertilizing are usually also noted on the packaging (be sure to read carefully, and never overdo it).
●Thinning
When the seedlings grow to about two leaves, if the planting density is too high, you need to thin them to maintain proper spacing, so the seedlings have more room to spread their leaves (using plug trays makes it easy to maintain spacing between seedlings).
Because seeds germinate at different times, the seedlings vary in size: those that sprouted first are larger and darker in color, while those that sprouted later are smaller and lighter in color. At this point, the weak and small seedlings need to be thinned out. Thinning will pull out some of the potting soil, so it should be replenished promptly, and watered with a fine-nozzle watering can to level the surface.
●Transplanting seedlings
When the seedling has 3 to 4 true leaves, the plant can be transplanted into a pot. Usually it is moved to a 3-inch pot; if you move it straight into a large container or into the ground from the start, problems such as uneven moisture control and poor root growth will occur.
During transplanting, you can also pinch off the growing tips, which encourages side shoots to grow.
