What to Do If Cherry Blossoms Won't Bloom? Cause Analysis and Solutions

1. Replace the Soil

Although it is not very demanding about soil, you should still make the effort to find a loose, moist spot to grow it. Only in such a spot will its roots grow strong and its flowers become more abundant.

2. Control Watering

Because its roots are not very deep, you need to water it more in summer, otherwise the water will evaporate quickly. During its growing period, both too much and too little water are bad. With too much water, the branches become thin and spindly, and the leaves grow densely but no flowers appear; with too little water, the whole tree looks malnourished and produces fruit prematurely.

3. Provide Appropriate Shade

If you want it to produce beautiful flower buds, do not let the sun shine on it for long periods in spring, summer and autumn. If the temperature is very high, the leaves will become smaller, the branches will not grow long, and the leaves will drop easily. Growth will be abnormal, so there will be no flowers. It grows in temperate and subtropical regions, where it is warm but not very hot. So if the summer temperature exceeds 34°C, its growth will run into problems, and if the winter temperature is lower than 4°C, it may even die. Therefore, if you want it to bloom normally, it is best to keep the surrounding temperature at 15 to 25°C.

4. Fertilize Precisely

Apply light fertilizer frequently, in small amounts but often enough, and make sure all the nutrient components are complete so that nutrition is adequate. After applying fertilizer, keep the leaves and flowers clean. If your tree does not bloom, it is very likely that you applied too much nitrogen fertilizer, because this kind of fertilizer promotes leaf growth and suppresses the appearance of flowers. So it is best to use phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Winter and early spring are the most important times for applying fertilizer.

5. Prune Frequently

If you want a higher chance of your cherry blossom buds opening, frequently cut off the dead and yellowed leaves. When it is about to bloom, pinch off the growing tips, and also trim some of the lower branches.
