Detailed Guide to Growing Variegated Spider Plant in Water
1. First grow it in soil for a period of time
You can pick off a small plantlet hanging down from a plant that already has little plantlets, then place it in a small flower pot, and grow it in soil, waiting for it to grow. When it has grown a little, you can dig it out of the pot. Rinse the soil off the roots with clean water, and then you are ready to prepare it for water culture.
2. You need a transparent container and a tray for the roots
When preparing for water culture, you must prepare a transparent container and a tray for the roots. Because the transparent container has no holes, it will not leak water; and the root tray can hold up its roots so they float in the water, which prevents all the leaves from sinking to the bottom of the container and affecting the leaves' normal breathing.
3. Prepare tap water and let it sit
When starting water culture, first prepare a sufficient amount of tap water, then put the tap water in another container and leave it for more than 24 hours. This releases the disinfecting components in it, so the water can better support its growth.
4. Fertilizing
When this plant is grown in water, fertilizing it for the first time is very important. If you only add water without adding fertilizer, this plant will find it hard to grow and develop. So after setting it up in water, you must sprinkle already dissolved fertilizer into the container, and make sure its roots can very easily reach the fertilizer.
5. Temperature
After this plant is grown in water, it is best to place it indoors fairly close to a window and in a spot where sunlight can reach it. This avoids frozen leaves in winter due to temperatures that are too low, and also ensures the temperature it requires. This plant grown in water cannot be placed outside the house, otherwise in late autumn it will easily be damaged by frost, causing the leaves to wither.
