What causes hyacinths to grow short
1. Causes
1. Improper cold treatment
This may be the main reason for this phenomenon.
Because it is native to the Netherlands, where winter temperatures stay above zero, and the transitions between winter and spring and between spring and summer are long, giving it enough time to recover and divide its buds after it has just finished flowering. Compared with the Netherlands, the transition from winter to spring and from spring to summer in China is relatively short, which means it does not have enough time to differentiate its flower clusters, and the flowers that grow may end up short.
So before planting, the Dutch environment is usually simulated artificially and the plant is given cold treatment to help it better adapt to China's environment. If you forget the cold treatment, or the duration or temperature of the cold treatment is improper, it may also grow short.
2. Temperature too low when flowering
When it flowers, it is best to give it a temperature above 17°C. If the temperature cannot reach this, the flower stem cannot elongate normally, which also causes it to grow short.
3. Frequently peeling off the old skin
The old skin of the hyacinth is very "dirty", but the new skin inside the old skin is white and clean. Some flower lovers peel off the old skin to make it look better. But after the old skin is peeled off, its new skin will gradually age and be peeled off again.
In fact, its nutrients are all stored in the bulb. Peeling off the old skin layer by layer will lose its internal nutrients, and without nutrients, it will naturally not grow tall.
2. Measures
1. We can give it better growing conditions according to the specific situation to help its stem elongate.
2. We can move it to a shady room without sunlight to encourage its flower stem to elongate. However, this method is not suitable if it has already flowered.
3. We can use some drugs to promote its stem elongation.
3. Precautions
1. The bulbs you buy must be given cold treatment in winter, so as to ensure that it can bloom well the next year.
2. If conditions do not allow, you can directly buy bulbs that have already been treated by the seller in spring.
3. Do not peel off its outer skin in normal times.
