How to Grow Basket Grass? A Detailed Guide to Cultivation Methods

1. Watering

The way this plant is watered is actually different from that of ordinary plants. We cannot simply nourish it when it lacks water, nor can we ignore it just because it still has some water to rely on. What we need to do is keep its soil moist at all times, so that it does not grow slowly because of water problems, and so that it grows more robustly once it does grow.

Generally speaking, if there is too little water, its leaves will grow very few while the rhizomes grow long, but this does not mean its stems are growing well. In addition, too little water will also cause other problems, for example the leaves will wilt and will not grow large.

2. Pruning

Generally speaking, plants all need pruning, but the purpose of pruning is not the same. Some is simply for looks, while some is to make the plant grow more vigorously. For basket grass, the purpose is the latter.

The specific method is to pinch out the growing tip of the plant. Of course, this also needs to be done at a particular stage; generally speaking, this treatment should be carried out during the seedling stage. If some leaves have already withered and it has passed the seedling stage, we have another method, which is to repot it in spring while pruning the plant heavily at the same time.

3. Light

Compared with other plants, its demand for light is very low. If the light is relatively strong, its transpiration will increase greatly, so the additional water lost will increase, and it will also easily lead to a lower survival rate. Therefore, in summer, when the light is strongest, we should block most of the sunlight; only then is it better for it.

4. Temperature

Generally, the suitable temperature for it is between 18 and 25 degrees, but when the environment cannot reach this temperature, we also need to keep it at around 10°C. If the temperature is too low, below 4°C, it will stop growing, and if the temperature is even lower, the plant will also die.
