What are the pest and disease control methods for purple coneflower (Echinacea)?
Root rot
This disease is fairly common and mainly attacks the roots, but at this stage we may not notice it; the symptoms only become apparent when the leaves turn yellow, so preventing this disease is very important. It is mainly caused by too much water accumulating in the soil around the roots. If you grow the plant indoors, be sure not to let water accumulate when watering; once some water accumulates, it will cause the roots in the pot to rot.
If you grow it outdoors and cannot control the amount of water, be sure to do a good job of drainage during the rainy season, as this will reduce the occurrence of this disease to the greatest extent. Also, if the disease has already occurred, promptly pull out the diseased plants, keep the pathogen away from the other plants, and spray the other plants with a suitable chemical agent.
Yellow leaf disease
As the name suggests, the symptom is that the leaves gradually turn yellow and even curl, and the plant also slowly becomes shorter. If not dealt with in time, the flowers produced are also very dull in color and even deformed, making them completely unenjoyable to look at. However, this disease generally shows symptoms in the second year after infection, so prevention and control must be carried out promptly; you can spray carbendazim once a week, and two or three times is enough. If you find diseased plants, also pull them out promptly, then bury them deeply or burn them to prevent the disease from spreading.
Cabbage caterpillar
This insect is also fairly common. Once you find a small number of them, you can just remove them directly, but if they appear in large numbers, you can spray cyfluthrin emulsifiable concentrate once a week, for a total of 2-3 times.
