How to Propagate the Chinese Smoke Tree? A Detailed Guide to Practical Propagation Methods
I. Cutting Propagation
1. Timing:
For this method, it is best to do it in the early summer.
2. Material Selection:
It is best to choose healthy branches free of pests and diseases as material, as this can improve the success rate. Also pay attention to the length of the branch; it does not need to be too long, 10 to 15 cm is enough.
3. Specific Steps:
Carefully cut off the branch we have selected, then wait a moment. After the cut has dried and no longer exudes liquid, it can be inserted into the substrate. Then we need to keep the temperature at 22 to 25°C and maintain sufficient moisture. In this way, after waiting about half a month to 20 days, the cutting will grow roots. Once the new roots have grown to 5 to 6 cm, they can be transplanted into pots.
II. Seed Sowing
1. Timing:
For this propagation method, we must sow immediately after collecting the seeds. Otherwise, the seeds will lose their ability to germinate, which needless to say is very unfavorable for the survival rate.
2. Substrate Selection:
This is also a step that greatly affects the success rate. We need to choose looser potting soil containing relatively more nutrients as the substrate.
3. Specific Method:
Spread the seeds as evenly as possible on a sand bed, ensure sufficient moisture, and regulate the temperature to 25 to 30°C. After about a month, the seeds can be observed germinating. Once the seedlings have grown to around 10 cm, they can be transplanted.
III. Points to Note
After transplanting, move it as little as possible and give it stable growing conditions.
