How to completely remove green algae from hydroponic potted plants

Flowers & Gardening By Emily Carter 0 views

A normal phenomenon

When growing plants hydroponically in a transparent container, green algae will grow if the light is fairly strong or if there is direct sunlight. To avoid green algae, you must never let sunlight reach the water. But without light the plant cannot survive for long either, so we should keep a normal attitude about it.

Cleaning

At night the green algae compete with the hydroponic plant for oxygen, which causes the hydroponic plant to lack oxygen and triggers a series of problems such as root rot and yellowing leaves. So when you cannot determine the amount of green algae, try to remove it (also for the sake of appearance); leaving a little occasionally does not matter.

The usual method of removal is to wipe the green algae off the glass bottle from time to time and rinse the roots appropriately.

If you really do not want to see green algae in the hydroponic container, you can use the following two medicines to clean it up (just put them in directly):

1. Lijunsha tablets

For a 20 cm pot, put in half a tablet to 1 tablet. Lijunsha kills green algae quickly; obvious results appear in about 2 hours (there are many counterfeit Lijunsha tablets, so be careful when buying)

Telling real from fake: a genuine Lijunsha tablet slowly dissolves after being put into water, and when you touch the dissolved Lijunsha it has a slightly abrasive feel, and the water turns a faint white after dissolving; a fake one does not dissolve even after a long time in water and remains solid.

2. Roxithromycin tablets

For a 20 cm pot, put in 1 tablet. Roxithromycin tablets kill green algae more slowly; obvious results generally appear only after 1-2 days, but the effect is better than Lijunsha and the green algae are less likely to come back.

Note: both of these medicines can be bought at large pharmacies, are easier to find than copper sulfate, and work well. The dosage is small and does no harm to the plants; remember to change the water a few days after the medicine takes effect.
