Growth habits of Jianlan
Jianlan originally grows on mountain waist valley walls in deep mountains and secluded valleys, in crevices of sloping hillside rocks, and beside sparse mountain grass. Sometimes it also grows on cliffs by mountain streams.
Jianlan likes a shady environment, likes moisture, dislikes dryness, and dislikes direct sunlight. The most suitable temperature for growth is 15~30°C; above 35°C or below 5°C, growth stalls and severe poor growth may occur. If the temperature is high and there is scorching sun, the leaves are very easily scorched; if the temperature is low and it is not moved indoors in time, it is very easily frostbitten.
Jianlan has fleshy roots and is suitable for growing in soil rich in humus, with good drainage; the soil should be slightly acidic and rich in iron. Regular loosening of the soil is beneficial to the growth of Jianlan.
