How to Grow Echeveria (Stone Lotus)? Detailed Guide to Cultivation Methods and Precautions
1. Substrate:
The growing substrate is very important for the plant's growth. This plant likes sandy loam soil rich in nutrients, and can also grow in poor soil. The soil is best if it is loose, fertile, and well-draining sandy soil. The substrate can be mixed from leaf mold, garden soil, river sand, and furnace slag in a ratio of 3:1:3:1, then add a little bone meal.
2. Water:
This plant can grow in an environment with a small amount of water. Correspondingly, it is very afraid of waterlogging, because water accumulating in the pot soil can easily cause its roots to rot. However, after the pot soil dries out, it still needs to be watered. Except when the plant enters dormancy during low temperatures, it needs water during other periods. If the air is relatively dry, we can spray water around the plant. Be careful not to let water accumulate on the leaves, so that water in the center of the leaf rosette cannot drain away and causes heart rot.
3. Light:
Although this plant can grow under high temperatures and strong light, if it is exposed to strong light for a long time, the leaves will age faster. So when the temperature is very hot, the plant can be placed on a balcony that receives light in both the morning and the evening.
4. Temperature:
This plant is not suited to cold, so in winter when the temperature is low, it should be placed in a spot with light. If the minimum nighttime temperature stays around 10 degrees and the temperature difference between day and night is relatively large, water can be supplemented appropriately and fertilizer applied as needed, which allows the plant to continue growing. But if the temperature is relatively low, reduce the amount of watering and stop adding fertilizer, letting the plant go dormant.
5. Fertilizer:
During the peak growing season, apply once every 20 days. Be careful not to get it on the leaves. Generally choose to apply it in the morning or evening when the weather is relatively good, and after applying, water thoroughly once to dilute the fertilizer remaining in the soil.
