What fertilizer makes pothos grow fast? Fertilizer selection and application tips
I. Choosing Flower Fertilizer
1. Specialized fertilizer
There are many specialized fertilizers on the market now. They are formulated with a reasonable ratio of N, K and other needed elements according to the growth needs of pothos, and can meet its growth needs very well.
2. Homemade fertilizer
Besides buying from the market, we can choose to make some flower fertilizer ourselves, which also works very well. We will mention this below.
II. Types of Flower Fertilizer
1. Solid fertilizer
Pothos generally does not need solid fertilizer, because it is not easy to absorb. When planting, you can bury a small amount of solid fertilizer at the bottom of the pot as a base fertilizer. Compound flower fertilizers on the market are not recommended; using a small amount of soybean cake as base fertilizer is enough.
2. Water-soluble fertilizer
During the growth period in spring, appropriately increasing the amount of water-soluble fertilizer applied can help it grow quickly, about once every 10-15 days. In summer and autumn, the frequency of application can be slightly reduced. Do not forget to dilute it before applying.
3. Foliar fertilizer
Although fertilizer may not be needed in winter, applying some foliar fertilizer can help it grow faster.
III. Homemade Flower Fertilizer
Below are several homemade flower fertilizers for pothos that you can make at home.
1. Rice washing water
Rice washing water, which contains a large amount of the N element, is undoubtedly one of the most effective homemade flower fertilizers. However, note that rice washing water cannot be used directly to water pothos; it needs to be fermented before it can be used for watering. We can pour freshly used rice washing water into a transparent container, such as a mineral water bottle, and put it in the sun. After about two weeks, when we see the water slightly yellowing and there is no sediment in the bottle, it means fermentation is complete.
2. Fish tank water
Friends who keep both pothos and fish can use the water changed from the fish tank for watering. This water contains fish waste, which is very good nutrients for pothos.
3. Stir-fried soybeans
We can find a small dish of soybeans and stir-fry them in a pan. When the bean skins turn black, take them out and boil them in a pot. After that, they can be buried at the bottom of the flower pot where pothos is grown, so as to provide relatively complete nutrients, helping it grow better and faster.
