What to Do About Root Rot in Norfolk Island Pine? Here's the Correct Way to Handle It
Provide Ventilation in Time
If root rot occurs, be sure to place it in a spot with good air circulation so that it is not so damp, and keep the growing environment dry. If the bottom of the pot is too damp, the roots of the Norfolk Island pine will easily accumulate water; staying in an extremely moist state for a long time, beyond its water requirements, will make it hard for the roots to breathe. Good ventilation can promptly keep it dry, so root rot will not occur so easily. Be especially careful about ventilation.
Disinfect the Flower Pot
When choosing to plant a Norfolk Island pine, use good soil, preferably soil with relatively good drainage, to ensure the roots' needs. Then disinfect the flower pot appropriately, so the roots will not easily be infected by bacteria. When root rot occurs, disinfecting the flower pot again can also eliminate some of the bacteria on the roots, so the roots will not continue to be infected, and the root rot will gradually improve.
Use Medication for Control in the Early Stage of Onset
In the early stage of the Norfolk Island pine's onset, we can spray a little wettable powder on the above-ground part about every 10 days, and the amount must be prepared according to the required instructions. For the underground part, dilute 70% of another chemical preparation and then water it 2 to 3 times. In this way, its root rot can be brought under control and will not become more serious, and those bacteria will all be killed in the early stage of onset. The survival rate will also be very high.
Transplant and Plant Again
When root rot occurs, we can remove its injured roots and the roots that have already rotted, then spray a special spray on its wounds, let it dry, and then plant it again; it will survive very well.
Spray Treatment with Medication
If the rot fungi at the rotted root part of the Norfolk Island pine are relatively active and difficult to suppress, then we can appropriately spray some medication to completely eliminate them.
