A Complete Guide to Growing and Caring for Variegated Spider Plants
1. Light
This plant usually likes to stay in a semi-shaded environment. It is fairly sensitive to light exposure, especially in summer and autumn when the sunlight is rather intense; it cannot tolerate direct strong light, or its leaves will turn yellow and wither. In winter, however, it can be given a suitable amount of sun. Generally speaking, we can place it in a cool and ventilated spot, while also making sure to maintain the humidity of the environment.
2. Temperature
This plant usually likes to grow in warm and humid places, and it cannot tolerate a climate that is too cold or temperatures that are too hot. The most suitable temperature for its growth is about 15°C to 25°C. Especially in winter, the temperature indoors must not be lower than 5°C. When the temperature gets too high, be careful not to let it be exposed to strong light, and provide a well-ventilated, shaded environment; when the temperature is low, let it get more sunlight, as this is what keeps its leaf color looking good.
3. Water
This plant loves water very much, but because its roots are fleshy and have a strong water-storage capacity, it is also fairly adaptable to dry environments. However, during the vigorous growth period from March to September, it needs a relatively large amount of water, so we should frequently water it and mist it, which can increase the humidity, and we must also make sure the soil in the pot is completely moist. In winter, when it is dormant, we can water it again once the soil in the pot has visibly dried to a depth of about 1 cm.
4. Fertilizer
This is a plant that is fairly tolerant of fertilizer, but if there is not enough fertilizer and water, it will easily scorch at the tips and then age, and its leaves will also change, completely losing their ornamental value. For spider plants that have already produced small plantlets, we can fertilize them once every half month. If they are growing well, there is no need to fertilize.
5. Points to Note
1. Be careful not to give it too much sun in summer and autumn.
2. In summer, pay attention to cooling it down; in winter, pay attention to keeping it warm.
