How to Make a Vertical Vegetable Garden

Celery, cilantro, garlic sprouts, lettuce, spinach... these vegetables that families often eat can all be planted, and you can also grow strawberries, tomatoes and other fruits. Of course, growing flowers is great too! Let's learn together!

First, take an ordinary mineral water bottle.

Cut off the bottom of the mineral water bottle.

Use scissors to poke a few drainage holes in the head of the mineral water bottle. Note that the head of the first bottle at the bottom should have its cap on.

Put the pre-mixed nutrient soil into the bottle (soil mix  peat soil : perlite : vermiculite in a 4:1:1 ratio, mixed evenly).

Fix the bottle full of potting soil upside down on an upright rack, railing or wall.

Following the above steps, cut off the bottoms of multiple plastic bottles and fill them with soil. Note that the bottles in the middle should all have their head caps removed, and there is no need to drill drainage holes.

As shown in the picture, while filling with soil, stack the plastic bottles upside down together.

Place the stacked plastic bottles upside down into the plastic bottle at the very bottom.

Fix them to the rack, railing or wall with rope or tape.

Take another plastic bottle, put the cap on, and use a tool to poke a drainage hole in the cap.

Cut off the bottom of this plastic bottle, then place it upside down at the very top of the string of plastic bottles.

Add water to the plastic bottle at the very top.

The water flows out gradually through the drainage hole of the top plastic bottle.

The water passes through the soil and the drainage holes, gradually seeping down to the lower layers, until it reaches the very bottom.

Starting from the bottom, use a knife to cut a square window in each plastic bottle. Note that you should only cut three sides of the square - the top, left and right sides - and do not cut off the bottom side.

In this way, the square plastic piece can act as a switch, keeping the soil and seeds inside so they don't fall out.

Open the plastic piece, and use your finger or a hole puncher to poke a hole inward.

Plant the vegetables, flowers and seeds you want to grow into it.

And so on, do the same for the other bottles. Note that the top 1-2 bottles are used for storing and watering water, so do not poke holes in them.

Done. For watering, you can pour water from the plastic bottle above. Also, for fertilizing, you can dissolve fertilizer into the water and apply it as liquid fertilizer.

A few months later, it will be lush and green, full of vitality!

This kind of vertical small vegetable garden can also be planted on walls and wooden racks. It is simple and easy to do, saves money and is eco-friendly, and gives you fresh and delicious produce. Your family won't need to spend money on vegetables anymore.
