Bougainvillea
Bougainvillea is also known as paper flower, leaf flower, nine-fold ge, and baojin. The flowering period is from July to October, but as long as the temperature is suitable, it can bloom in all four seasons.
Its ability to grow on its own is also quite strong, and it can be propagated by cuttings. Generally, after flowering in June to July, cut mature semi-lignified branches 10 to 15 cm long, soak the base of the cuttings in rooting water, then insert them into a sand bed, and they will take root in about 1 month.
Care is as follows:
1. Bougainvillea likes light. Insufficient light during the growing season will cause the plant to grow weakly and affect flowering. In winter it should be placed in a bright place, and daily light must not be less than 8 hours, otherwise a large number of leaves are likely to drop.
2. Bougainvillea must maintain sufficient nutrients. I often water the flowers with rice-washing water, and then fertilize with a special fertilizer for bougainvillea. Fertilization should be done lightly many times, that is, a small amount at a time but repeatedly, applying thin fertilizer. This is to avoid damaging the root system. Normally, fertilizer should be applied once every 5-7 days.
3. The flowering period is very long. The bougainvillea at my home blooms from March and April to around July. Then starting from October, it can bloom for two months. When it blooms, the leaves all drop, and the branches full of flowers greet the eye in a bright and beautiful display. Before the flowering period, control water and do not fertilize.
