These past couple of days gardenias have hit the market in large numbers, with pure white, fragrant flowers at a lovely price, making them quite popular among flower lovers. Many people buy a pot to take home and display, but they find that while the gardenia was bursting with blooms and had emerald green leaves when bought, after just a couple of days at home the leaves turn yellow and the flower buds start dropping. What is going on? What should be done?
Why do newly bought gardenias turn yellow?
Everyone should understand this: gardenias at the wholesale market are generally dug up roots and all from garden soil and then simply planted in a cheap plastic pot. After the florist ships them, they simply switch them into a new pot, meaning the gardenia you buy has just been repotted. Newly repotted flowers all go through a period of settling in. The few days after you bring it home happen to be a process of adapting to the environment and the roots adapting. If you do not care for it well during this period, it is very easy for bud drop and yellow leaves to appear. So how should we care for a newly bought gardenia?
1. It cannot be exposed to blazing sun. Place it indoors in a bright, ventilated spot to settle in for a week, then care for it normally.
2. During the settling-in period, keep the potting soil moist; it cannot lack water, but the potting soil must not become waterlogged. Keeping the soil slightly moist is enough.
When yellow leaves appear on the gardenia, what do we do? Here is the most effortless method for everyone.
Dilute vinegar and clean water at a ratio of 1:1000, then spray the leaves and water the gardenia roots with it. Use it three times in a row or more, and you will see the yellowed gardenia leaves slowly turn green again.
Finally, if you want the gardenia you bought to keep blooming heavily and easily burst into a full pot, be sure to remember to keep it in a spot with plenty of light, and apply fertilizer once a month. The most effortless way is to simply apply a compound fertilizer, but pay attention to the amount. Never use too much, otherwise it easily causes the gardenia to only grow leaves and not bloom.
That is all for today's sharing. Flower lovers, do you have any better care methods? You are welcome to share and discuss together.
