Rice water really can become an excellent fertilizer for plants, but it must be used correctly and on the right occasion. If the environment is suitable, plants will not easily die no matter how you fiddle with them. Let's take a look below at whether rice water needs to be fermented before being used to water plants.

1. The influence of the environment

If your growing environment is especially well ventilated and you have a small garden, then you can try using fermented rice water to water plants. Fully fermented rice water has a very foul smell, so it is not suitable for indoor growing; even a balcony or terrace is not suitable.

Some gardening enthusiasts say that putting some lemon peel into the sealed rice water eliminates the smell. In fact, the smell is still there, just slightly weaker.

2. The influence of the plant:

If it is a small seedling or one that has just been transplanted not long ago, then it is not suitable to water it directly with rice water, otherwise the plant is easily burned.

The fermentation process of rice water is very simple. In a sealed environment, you can use a plastic bottle, then place it in a warm place, and the fermentation process will be complete in 2~3 weeks.

For relatively robust plants, you can simply mix rice water with a little clean water and pour it directly onto the soil. Fertilizing is also best done in a well-ventilated environment.

3. Notes on using rice water:

Many gardening enthusiasts pour rice water directly onto the soil. Rice water is generally made directly with tap water, and using this kind of water heavily over the long term easily causes the soil to become compacted, and in serious cases the soil becomes alkaline.

Rice water that has finished fermenting also cannot be used directly to water plants; no flower could withstand that. At this point you need to dilute it with clean water. Only after the rice water is diluted with water and then used to water plants can it become a beneficial and harmless fertilizer.

With successfully fermented rice water, you only need to pour a small amount into new rice water, shake it evenly, and the new bottle can be used in five days. Large plants can be watered directly at the roots; small plants should be given diluted with water.
