Now let's begin the main text:

I am not a master, but I have three years of practical experience growing succulents.

Today let me talk about my leaf propagation journey!

Many friends are extremely envious of my skilled leaf propagation technique, but for me leaf propagation is not stressful at all.

First, the requirement is how to choose leaves. Try not to pull off the lowest leaves of an old succulent, because although the lowest old leaves look large, they are actually already sub-healthy and are within the range of being consumed, so it is not recommended to take them. The middle leaves are full of vitality, equivalent to the young and strong stage of humans.

After choosing the leaves, the next step is how to mix the soil. For leaf propagation, the soil mix does not need large coarse particles; fine sand is the main component, such as river sand or sea sand, and then nutrient soil. If you have vermiculite or perlite, you can also mix it into the soil to increase air permeability. The ratio is 2:1:1:1; if you do not have the two kinds of particles, just use a 2:1 ratio.

After that, let the selected leaves dry for a period of time, then simply place them on the soil surface.

The process of drying the leaves is to prevent black rot and turning to water. However, I am very impatient, and every time after pulling them off I just place them directly on the soil surface. During that time black rot and turning to water often occurred, but since there were so many leaves, I did not care, haha! Do not learn this lazy habit from me ⊙?⊙! For safety's sake, drying is still a necessary process.

There are many ways to place the leaves. Some like to lay them flat (I do), some like to insert the growth point into the soil, and some like to insert them sideways.

The advantage of sideways insertion is that it suits thin leaves. After a period of time you will find that both ends curl upward. At this time, insert the leaf sideways into the soil partway, closer to the moisture of the soil, which is more conducive to rooting.

After that comes the process of waiting for rooting and sprouting.

During this period, spray water on the leaf and soil surface every day; a mist-like moisture is enough. About twice a day, this helps keep the soil surface from becoming too dry and promotes rapid rooting at the growth point.

After about a week, the leaf propagations gradually sprout and root. Some take longer, so do not worry, it is just a matter of time. Some produce roots first and then sprouts, or sprouts first and then roots, so do not be anxious either: if roots come first, there is a lack of light; if sprouts come first, the soil lacks moisture.

After the leaf propagation seedlings appear, comes the care process. At this time be especially careful: too much water easily causes them to turn to water, and the growth point of the old leaf is easily infected by fungi, so provide water near the sprouting point; a narrow-spout watering can is recommended.

After the root system becomes stronger, appropriately increase the watering frequency. I always water whenever I see the soil surface is dry, but master the amount of water well and do not give too much at once.

After a few months, the leaf propagation seedlings become crowded. Some mother leaves are consumed into dead leaves, while some mother leaves remain plump and round. Dead leaves fall off at a touch, so just pick them out; plump mother leaves can be slowly wiggled and taken off for a second round of leaf propagation.

When the crown width of the leaf propagation seedlings reaches about 3 to 4 cm, they can be transplanted, choosing a suitable pot. During transplanting, try to keep the original soil and transplant while keeping the root system undamaged.

As the seedlings continue to grow and become stronger, the pots are also changed accordingly, about once every spring and autumn.

This is a long-winded bunch, just my personal experience; please forgive any shortcomings. I hope it gives some reference to friends whose leaf propagation never succeeds, but you should also read more posts about various kinds of leaf propagation; only more complete experience can improve the success rate of leaf propagation.

If any friends like it, why not experience it for yourselves, the joy of leaf propagation, and share the delight of leaf propagation growth. In the process of growth it will constantly bring you surprises and expectations, so what are you waiting for? Take action!
