Excerpt from the "Three-Step Rose Growing Method" series
In yesterday's article, Lan Yao focused on the prevention and control of black spot disease and powdery mildew. Besides these two most common rose diseases, there are also some other diseases that roses are prone to catching. Today Lan Yao will list them one by one.
1. Downy mildewRose downy mildew tends to occur from April to June, and the cause is mostly excessive moisture.
Downy mildew mainly harms rose leaves. Infected leaves develop smeared brown spots.
Prevention and control methods:After a rose catches downy mildew, diseased leaves should be removed and destroyed as early as possible, and fungicide sprays should be applied for prevention and control. For usual prevention, attention should be paid to maintaining good ventilation and preventing excessive moisture.2. Gray mold
Rose gray mold tends to occur in spring and autumn when the temperature difference between day and night is large. Gray mold mainly harms rose leaves and flower buds. After leaves are infected with gray mold, water-soaked brown spots first appear at the leaf tips and leaf edges, smooth and slightly sunken, and then expand and rot. After flower buds are infected with gray mold, red spots appear on the petals.
Prevention and control methods:Gray mold is mainly prevented. For prevention, carbendazim, zineb and others can be used. After disease occurs, infected flower buds and leaves should be removed in time, and drugs such as procymidone and dimethachlon can be used for treatment.3. Leaf blight
Rose leaf blight mainly occurs on leaves. It appears as small yellow spots in the early stage of infection, then rapidly expands inward into irregular large patches. When the damage is severe, the dried part of the leaf can reach 2/3 of the entire leaf, until the whole leaf dries up and falls off.
Prevention and control methods:For leaf blight, carbendazim, kresoxim-methyl and others can be used for treatment.4. Anthracnose
In the early stage of anthracnose occurrence, irregular light green patches appear on the leaves, then expand into yellow-brown and dark purple, and finally turn gray-brown, with the edges being darker in color.
When new shoots and flowers are infected, the spots are similar to those on diseased leaves, but the spots on the shoots are slightly sunken. In severe cases, the leaves shrink and fall off, and the new shoots rot and die.
Prevention and control methods:For anthracnose prevention, attention should be paid to maintaining ventilation. After disease occurs, infected leaves should be removed in time, and then metalaxyl or zineb should be sprayed for treatment.
During the process of growing roses, improper management makes them prone to illness, but there are only a few diseases they are susceptible to, and the drugs used for prevention and treatment are also similar.
During the growing process, as long as attention is paid to prevention, the occurrence of rose diseases can be greatly reduced. Of course, besides rose diseases, pests are also a big trouble. The biggest problem for balcony growers growing roses is spider mites.
Tomorrow Lan Yao will continue to share about the identification and control of rose pests. You are welcome to share it with more flower friends to learn. Have you ever encountered the following problems?
After reading many rose growing methods, you felt they were very useful at the time.
But when you really wanted to put them into practice, you found that you simply did not know how.
From this point, I can tell you that fragmented growing methods, although useful, are not suitable for you now. What you need now is systematic rose growing theory.
