Because pothos has large leaves with a thick texture, a crystal-clear deep green color, and pale yellow markings, plus a smooth, upright, elegant and graceful appearance, it has become an outstanding choice for indoor greenery decoration.

But here comes the question: why do the pothos grown by so many garden enthusiasts turn yellow at the leaves and always do poorly? In fact, it is because garden enthusiasts do not know how to say "no." Yes, to care for pothos and keep it green, you have to boldly say "no."

Pothos is a colorful foliage plant, and because of its leaf color it is highly favored by people. If cared for properly, pothos can also be used for wall decoration, climbing up on its own to form an interesting green picture. So, how should you say "no" to pothos?

1. It must not lack light

Pothos comes in two types: green-leaf and variegated-leaf. Variegated pothos is greatly affected by light, which not only affects the size of the leaves, the leaf color and the coordination of stem and leaf growth, but also affects the formation of its colorful patterns.

Pothos likes to grow under fairly bright light conditions, showing robust plants, large leaves, vivid and glossy leaf color. If light is insufficient for a long time, the fresh leaf color and magnificent markings will disappear or fade.

So, garden enthusiasts must say "no" to insufficient light. To care for pothos, maintain 8-10 hours of diffused light or artificial light every day, and you can keep the beautiful leaf form.

2. Fertilizer must not be improper

As a foliage plant, pothos has a certain proportional requirement for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. For most foliage plants, the most suitable nutritional condition is a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium ratio of 2.5:1:2.3. Therefore, during cultivation, do not apply only nitrogen fertilizer while ignoring the supply of other nutrients, otherwise the branches and leaves will grow leggy and the markings will decrease or disappear.

Therefore, for pothos to overwinter, garden enthusiasts should apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in autumn to increase the sugar content in the plant and help it overwinter safely. At ordinary times, simply supply the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ratio that pothos needs.

3. Do not let it mutate

During the care of pothos, bud mutation may occur. The biggest characteristic of bud mutation is: among the buds sent out from the same batch of sprouts, some have markings while the mutated ones do not, or the lower part of the branch has markings while the markings on the new buds at the upper part disappear. At this time, garden enthusiasts only need to promptly cut off the mutated part.
