What are the differences between sesame oil and fragrant sesame oil, and what are their effects and benefits?
Sesame oil is oil made from sesame seeds; generally black sesame seeds are eaten, while white sesame seeds are pressed for oil. It is a fatty oil extracted from the seeds of the sesame plant of the Pedaliaceae family, also known as huma, youma, jusheng, zhima, fragrant sesame oil, and so on. Many people want to know what the difference is between sesame oil and fragrant sesame oil. What effects and benefits does it have? In fact, fragrant sesame oil and sesame oil are the same thing; both are alternative names for sesame oil. However, they still differ slightly in aroma and processing method.
1. What is the difference between sesame oil and fragrant sesame oil
1. Fragrant sesame oil: It has a rich or pronounced sesame oil aroma. According to its processing method, it is divided into the following two types: small mill fragrant sesame oil: ground with a small stone mill and produced by the water extraction method; machine-made fragrant sesame oil: produced by a mechanical method.
2. Sesame oil: The aroma is light. It is processed by the general pressing method, extraction method or other methods.
3. There is also a so-called “sesame oil”, which is actually Sichuan pepper oil, because after eating it your tongue goes numb.
4. The sesame oil that southerners often eat is pure sesame oil, called small mill sesame oil. When eating wontons or dumplings, adding a few drops makes them quite fragrant. It should not be added in too large an amount, nor is it used for stir-frying.
2. The effects and benefits of sesame oil and fragrant sesame oil
1. Delaying aging: Pure sesame oil is rich in vitamin E and has the function of promoting cell division and delaying aging.
2. Protecting blood vessels: Pure sesame oil contains very rich unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic acid and palmitic acid, which are easily broken down, absorbed and used by the human body to promote cholesterol metabolism and help eliminate deposits on arterial walls.
3. Lubricating the intestines and relieving constipation: Patients with habitual constipation can drink a mouthful of pure sesame oil on an empty stomach in the morning and evening to lubricate the intestines and relieve constipation.
4. Reducing the harm of smoking and drinking: People who smoke and are fond of alcohol can often drink a little pure sesame oil to reduce the direct irritation and damage of smoke to the teeth, gums and oral mucosa, as well as the formation of smoke spots in the lungs. It also has a relative inhibitory effect on the absorption of nicotine. Drinking a little pure sesame oil before drinking alcohol provides a certain protective effect on the oral cavity, esophagus, gastric cardia and gastric mucosa.
5. Protecting the voice: Frequently drinking pure sesame oil can enhance the elasticity of the vocal cords, making the glottis open and close flexibly and powerfully, and has a good restorative effect on hoarseness and chronic pharyngitis.
6. Treating rhinitis: Patients with chronic rhinitis can use a sterilized cotton ball dipped in fragrant sesame oil to apply to the affected area in the nasal cavity, which has a very good effect.
Appendix: Identification methods
First, look
Small mill fragrant sesame oil is processed at a low temperature, so its color is generally brownish red, while machine-made fragrant sesame oil is processed at a temperature as high as 245°C, so its color is darker, appearing a dim purplish red.
Second, smell
Small mill fragrant sesame oil has a fresh, pure sesame oil aroma——rich and mellow. Machine-made fragrant sesame oil has a relatively strong burnt odor.
Third, shake
Take a bottle of small mill fragrant sesame oil and shake it vigorously for about 1 minute, then place the bottle upright and observe the upper surface of the oil: the surface of small mill fragrant sesame oil will have a layer of foam and bubbles, but they disappear immediately; the surface of machine-made fragrant sesame oil will have a lot of yellow foam that does not disappear for a long time.
