Habits of tulips

Tulips are native to high mountain areas and prefer wet, cold winters and dry, hot summers.

They go dormant in summer, take root in winter and sprout new shoots. But the shoots do not emerge from the soil; they grow into stems and leaves only after winter.

The flowering period is March/April each year, and the suitable temperature is 15~20℃.

Tulips like sunlight and a sheltered environment. They are highly cold-resistant and can withstand low temperatures of -14℃; with snow cover in winter they can survive the winter. But they fear heat.

They require loose, fertile, acidic sandy soil.
