Growth habits of wintersweet
Wintersweet likes sunlight, can tolerate shade, and dislikes waterlogging. Wintersweet flowers can bloom proudly in frost and snow, with yellow flowers like wax and a rich fragrance, and are the main flowering trees or shrubs for winter viewing. Wintersweet is cold-hardy and can overwinter safely when the temperature is not lower than -15°C; it can be grown in the open ground in areas south of Beijing, but when the flowering period encounters a low temperature of -10°C, the flowers suffer frost damage.
Wintersweet usually grows in deep, fertile, loose, well-drained, slightly acidic sandy loam, and grows poorly on saline-alkali soil.
Wintersweet has strong drought tolerance and is afraid of waterlogging, so when caring for it at home, do not water too frequently. The tree has strong growth vigor and vigorous branching, and the root crown easily produces suckers. It tolerates pruning and is easy to shape. It flowers before leafing out, with the flowering period from 11 month ~ the following 3 month, and matures in 7~8 month.
